Local radio station popularly known as Akol Yam in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State is close to shutting down operation due to shortage of operation funds.

Angelina Achol Piol, the Manager of Aweil FM last week called on the public to help fundraise money to keep the radio station operating.

“The programs are likely to come to a halt if no funds are availed, the station had been supported by TRC, the radio community, through Internews but now we no longer have enough funds to continue operating,” Achol made the announcement on radio.

The radio station has been actively hosting peace talk shows, development programs and and broadcasting news which have been captivating to the public.

“We are independent radio station with ethical values, anyone who provides money with hidden agenda like seeking favoritism for character assassination or any kind of propaganda will not be accepted,” said Achol.

One of the regular callers on Aweil FM, Deng Madut said the radio has over time been instrumental in promoting peace and unity in the state.

The government owned radio has for years been struggling to maintain operations.
