The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) on Wednesday provided work equipment to disadvantaged women in South Sudan to help them earn a better living.
TIKA donated sewing machines and chemicals for making soap to the Women for Change organization to help them train underprivileged women in the capital Juba.
Erdem Mutaf, Turkiye’s Ambassador to South Sudan, said during the handover ceremony of the equipment to Women for Change that women’s empowerment, child care are among their priorities in South Sudan.
He said that they have been sending aid assistance across the country to help vulnerable groups.
“I am happy to be part of this project that will support 100 vulnerable women, which means if you multiply it will be 500 people, this kind of project will support thousands of people in South Sudan,” Mutaf said.
He disclosed that the Turkish government with their agencies will continue supporting people of South Sudan.
Anna Tazita Samuel, Executive Director of Women for Change appreciated the Turkish government for supporting vulnerable women in South Sudan to be breadwinners in their families.
She said that this is the second phase of the project that has been supported by TIKA,.
Samuel said that last year TIKA supported the training of 78 women who are now progressing well in the market.
She said that the first project changed the lives of many women who attended the training and benefited from starting kits after the training.
Samuel urged the women to own the project and put all their efforts in it such that they come out with good skills that will help them in future.
Cafer T. Besli, TIKA program coordinator in South Sudan, said that disadvantaged women have a special place in their heart and their activities, adding that they will continue supporting women in South Sudan.
He said that their projects are focus on the vulnerable people in south Sudan especially children and women
“The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) repeat its tailoring and soap making training and start-up kits project for another vulnerable women focus group in Gurei area. With the tailoring and soap making items provided by TİKA, 100 women will be trained. On the second phase of this project start-up kits will be provided for the women who successfully completed their training, allowing them to open their own businesses,” Besli said.
He said that TIKA will continue in the future to support south Sudanese women and the country in different sectors like Agriculture, Livestock among others.
Since 2017, thousands of women benefitted from TİKA projects.
