1.4 million people receive COVID jabs in South Sudan

At least 1.4 million people have been confirmed fully vaccinated against COVID-19 since the start of vaccination last year.

 Sacha Bootsman, the COVID-19 Incident Manager for the World Health Organization (WHO) told journalists on Sunday during the weekly press briefing in Juba.

 “We are now approaching 1,400,000 people to be fully vaccinated and we have surpassed the 10 percent of the total population fully vaccinated for covid-19,” Bootsman said.

 South Sudan since March 2021, received 2.1 million doses of both AstraZeneca and Johnson and Johnson vaccines.

John Rumunu, the COVID-19 Incident Manager at the National Ministry of Health, said that they are aiming to increase vaccine uptake across the country.

“There are efforts to do more sensitization, we have strategy of stepping up vaccination that will improve the demand and uptake in Jonglei state,” Rumunu said.

The total cumulative number of COVID-19 cases confirmed since the first case on April 5, 2020 stands  now at 17, 779, the cumulative recoveries are 16,536 and the cumulative deaths are 138.
