South Sudan’s unity government hopeful to finalise roadmap for peace-Cabinet Minister.

South Sudan’s government is optimistic a roadmap on peace deal’s implementation will be out soon according to the Minister for Cabinet Affairs Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro.

The parties are currently meeting to finalize a timeline for implementation of the 2018 peace deal, which has only seven months left for it to expire.

“We are happy with spirit of parties to the agreement in the way which they handled the proposal of the president, it only tells you the parties to the agreement are conversant with it, they are empowered to make whatever amendment they feel necessary in order to make sure this country does not go back to war,” Said Lomuro.

Members of the international community have voiced concern over slow implementation of the peace agreement previously seen as a way out of recurrent civil war in the world’s youngest nation.

The US has already halted support to the country’s peace process citing lack of progress in implementing key provisions of the peace deal, the unified forces are not yet graduated, electoral laws are yet to be tabled in parliament, census, voter registration and clear roadmap to enter post the agreement are not yet in place.

However, Mr. Lomuro said the unity government is making progress in coming up with a way forward in moving the peace process forward. He said parties to the agreement have given views that are now being put together in a document that will be availed to the public soon.

“We have received the views of the parties to the agreement founded on the proposal of the president, we do not want our people to be in warfare again, we want the peace agreement to end in peaceful and dependable election,” said Lomuro.

He further revealed that, the extended meeting of the presidency with parties to the agreement would permit the parties to present their proposals, which he says resembles the original roadmap to the presidency to quicken up a peaceful conclusion of the peace agreement.
