The marking of Certificate of Primary Examination (CPE) papers that had been held up for three months commenced Monday in Juba.
These examination were wrote in February by 53,220 candidates that included 31,232 boys and 21,988 respectively.
“On behalf of South Sudan National Examination Council and on my own behalf, I take this opportunity to update the nation on marking of the 2021 CPE and Certificate of Secondary Examinations that as of today I declare the beginning of the marking of the examination papers,” Martin Tako Moyi, the Deputy Minister of General Education and Instruction and Acting Chairperson of South Sudan National Examination Council said.
He noted that the marking of these examination papers have caused delays in admission of senior one students in secondary schools across the country.
Moyi disclosed that marking of the examination scripts should have started in late February and concluded by March this year.
He said that successful candidates should have been admitted by May, adding that this has not been possible due to limited financial resources.
“I have therefore, directed the secretariat of examinations to work hard to ensure that the results are released timely,” said Moyi.
However, Moyi noted that the Ministry of Finance and Planning has just released the essential resources to facilitate marking of exams.
Simon Nyok Deng, the Secretary General of South Sudan National Examination, confirmed that they have assembled about 500 teachers across the country to do the work.
He estimated that that the whole process might take 4- 6 weeks to be completed.
