By Michael Tapeng,
One person was killed on Monday in Obira Boma in Eastern Equatoria State according to Eastern Equatoria’s Local Government Minister, Peter Lokeng.
Mr. Lokeng is urging the youth to remain calm as state authorities carry out investigation with an aim of apprehending the perpetrator(s).
The victim identified as Anya Ohitu also known as Oyolo was shot and killed on Monday at 6pm South Sudan local time as he was coming back from a borehole in Obira Village situated along the Chahari-Obira road.
The Obira youth (monyiemiji) allege that they pursued the attackers and the foot marks show that they went towards Dongotono mountain and Ipida villages.
In a telephone interview with Juba Echoe on Wednesday, Eastern Equatoria State Minister of Local Government, Peter Lokeng confirmed the incident.
“According to the information, some two people came and laid an ambush in the borehole along Chahari road on the 21st of March in which they shot and killed one person and this is what I got from the ground,” Minister of Local Government, Peter Lokeng confirmed.
Lokeng says those responsible for the attack on Monday attack in Obira is yet to be identified.
“I never confirmed because they told me they have traced the footmarks and the footmarks reached up to somewhere, but disappeared. So we don’t know exactly where the suspects came from. We have talked to the Executive Director to go on the ground and work on the issue, and also we need to call the Commissioner of Ikotos County to find out what exactly happened,” Lokeng added.
In a telephone interview on Wednesday, a youth from Obira Boma who identified himself as Oduho said they followed the footmarks up to Dongotono and Ipida villages.
“There is one of the suspects from Ipida village which is one of the Dongotono villages. We are yet to get details of the suspects this evening and we will give you more information. We have the name of the person who killed Anya and we will give you the details once we have confirmation,” he said.
In December last year, two young ladies were shot and killed in Obira village by suspected youths from Dongotono and that triggered revenge which led to killing of three people from Dongotono village.
