South Sudan, Djibouti reaffirm bilateral ties ahead of IGAD meeting

South Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Minister James Pitia Morgan met Monday with Djibouti’s Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Abdoulkader Houssein Omar to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation.

The meeting focused on areas of mutual interest and efforts to deepen cooperation between the two countries, according to South Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Omar expressed Djibouti’s solidarity with South Sudan as the country prepares for its upcoming general elections and said he intends to visit South Sudan ahead of the polls.

The two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to peace, stability and continued cooperation, building on what they described as longstanding relations between South Sudan and Djibouti.

Morgan’s meeting with Omar was part of South Sudan’s diplomatic engagements in Djibouti ahead of the IGAD Council of Ministers’ Meeting scheduled for Sept. 15.

Morgan traveled to Djibouti to represent South Sudan at the regional meeting, which brings together foreign ministers from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development member states.
