Energy minister meets standards delegation over electricity sector regulations
Minister of Energy and Dams Agok Makur Kur met Monday with officials from the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards and the International Electrotechnical Commission to discuss strengthening technical standards in the country’s electricity and energy sector.
The delegation was led by Oiylang Dominic Kanuto, executive director of the South Sudan National Bureau of Standards, and included Collins Waffula, the IEC country officer for South Sudan at the organization’s Africa office.
The meeting focused on introducing the International Electrotechnical Commission and exploring opportunities for cooperation with the ministry on developing and adopting technical standards for the electricity and energy sector.
The officials also discussed strengthening the participation of South Sudanese technical experts in relevant IEC technical committees.
Agok reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to working with the national standards bureau and international institutions to improve safety, quality and reliability standards across the energy sector.
He also said the ministry was prepared to nominate qualified technical experts to serve on the national technical committee responsible for reviewing and adopting relevant electrotechnical standards.
The meeting was held in Juba on Sept. 14, 2026.
