SSRA Reminds Taxpayers of Sept. 15 Deadline for August Tax Filings and Payments
The South Sudan Revenue Authority has reminded taxpayers that Sept. 15 is the deadline for filing tax returns and making payments for obligations arising in August.
In a taxpayer notice dated Sept. 7, Commissioner for the Domestic Tax Revenue Division Angelo Aguot Deng said the deadline covers monthly tax returns, quarterly filings and payments, as well as outstanding arrears resulting from audits or collection enforcement assessments.
The authority urged taxpayers with outstanding liabilities to settle their arrears by the deadline.
The notice highlighted Personal Income Tax Withholdings covering wages and salaries, rental income, government contracts, technical fees, dividends, royalties, and lottery and other gaming winnings.
Businesses operating in sectors including manufacturing, hotels, bars and restaurants, financial institutions, travel and tour agencies, and telecommunications were also reminded to file and pay applicable sales and excise taxes.
The SSRA further directed taxpayers who have not completed filings or payments for previous tax periods to do so immediately. These include business profit tax, personal income tax and presumptive income tax for eligible entrepreneurial activities.
The authority warned businesses operating without a Tax Identification Number, or TIN, that such operations are illegal and constitute a criminal offense under Sections 113 and 114 of the Taxation Act 2009, as amended.
Taxpayers with outstanding arrears recorded in the Digital Tax Information System, or DTIS, were advised to engage with the arrears management committee and settle their obligations through designated commercial banks before proceeding with current online filings and payments.
The SSRA also urged taxpayers to update their e-tax TIN registration details and contact information.
The reminder comes as the revenue authority seeks to strengthen domestic revenue mobilization, improve tax compliance and increase accountability in the collection of public revenue.
The SSRA provides online tax filing and payment services through its taxpayer portal.
“Let’s pay taxes for national development and economic stability,” the authority said in the notice.
