Kiir, Ramaphosa discuss South Sudan peace process, elections and bilateral ties

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa held talks Thursday on South Sudan’s peace process, preparations for planned general elections, security, constitutional reforms and bilateral relations.
The meeting in Pretoria also focused on efforts to conclude South Sudan’s transitional period under the Revitalized Peace Agreement and advance the country toward a democratic future.
Kiir thanked the South African government and people for their continued friendship and support for South Sudan’s peace efforts.
The two leaders also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between South Sudan and South Africa as Juba prepares for general elections scheduled for December 2026.
South Africa has continued to engage with South Sudan on peace and political matters as the country works to implement the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan.
The meeting comes as South Sudan faces key political and constitutional decisions ahead of the planned elections and the end of the transitional period.
