South Sudan to Commemorate International Day of the Disappeared in Juba

South Sudan will on Friday commemorate the International Day of the Disappeared, honoring missing persons and standing in solidarity with families who continue to search for their loved ones.

The commemoration will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Juba Volleyball Stadium in Nimra Thalata, next to the Basketball Stadium.

The event is being organized with support from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the South Sudan Red Cross (SSRC).

The International Day of the Disappeared is observed each year to remember people whose whereabouts remain unknown and to recognize the lasting emotional and social impact on their families.

Organizers say the commemoration will provide an opportunity to acknowledge the pain and uncertainty faced by families of missing persons while reaffirming the message that missing loved ones are not forgotten and that their families are not alone.

Representatives from the national ministries of Humanitarian Affairs, Justice and Constitutional Affairs, and Gender, Child and Social Welfare are expected to attend, alongside religious leaders, the ICRC, SSRC and families of missing persons.
