South Sudan’s Ministerial High-Level Committee on Economic Reforms has reviewed a proposed government-to-government fuel supply agreement with Kenya aimed at increasing fuel availability and reducing prices in the local market.

The committee held its regular meeting Monday at the Ministry of Finance and Planning under the chairmanship of Pieng Deng Kuol.

Acting committee rapporteur Ezekiel Lol Gatuoth said members considered a report presented by Ateny Wek Ateny following a recent subcommittee visit to Nairobi to discuss the proposed agreement with Kenyan authorities.

Gatuoth said the committee commended the subcommittee’s findings and recommendations and adopted the resolutions contained in its report.

The committee also received an update from South Sudan Revenue Authority Commissioner General Moun Deng Ajuet on the government’s cash payment policy and semi-monthly revenue collection.

Gatuoth said the final revenue report is expected Wednesday, adding that the committee was satisfied with the revenue collection forecast presented by the commissioner general.

The committee also reaffirmed its commitment to implementing a presidential order that cancels non-statutory tax exemptions and to ensuring the timely payment of civil servants’ salaries as the country’s liquidity situation improves.

The proposed fuel agreement with Kenya is part of broader government efforts to address fuel shortages and reduce costs affecting consumers and businesses in South Sudan.
