South Sudan Foreign Ministry opens humanitarian law and diplomacy workshop
South Sudan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Akuei Bona Malwal, on Monday opened a three-day workshop on International Humanitarian Law and Humanitarian Diplomacy at the ministry’s headquarters in Juba.
The training, organized by the ministry’s Diplomatic Institute in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross, brings together diplomats from across the ministry to strengthen their understanding of international humanitarian law and its application in diplomatic work.
Akuei urged participants to make practical use of the knowledge gained during the workshop and apply it in their professional responsibilities.
Director General of the Diplomatic Institute, Amb. Ajiing Adiang Mariik, welcomed the partnership with the ICRC and the organization’s support for the training.
ICRC Head of Delegation Daniel Bunnskog reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continued engagement with the South Sudanese government.
The three-day workshop is aimed at strengthening diplomats’ capacity to understand humanitarian principles and incorporate humanitarian considerations into their diplomatic responsibilities.
