Al-Sabah Children’s Hospital Opens Diabetes and Insulin Clinic to Improve Care for Children

The South Sudan Pediatrics Association (SSPA), in collaboration with Al-Sabah Children’s Hospital, has launched a dedicated Diabetes and Insulin Clinic in Juba to improve access to specialized care for children living with diabetes across the country.
The new clinic will provide insulin support, dedicated paediatric care, counselling, routine follow-up, and treatment for diabetes-related complications, addressing a major gap in services for children across the country.
Speaking during the launch, South Sudan Paediatric Association President Dr. Reagan Taban Augustino described the clinic as a major milestone in improving the lives of children with diabetes and reducing preventable deaths linked to delayed diagnosis and limited access to treatment.
He said the facility will also serve as a training centre for healthcare workers, helping strengthen paediatric diabetes management across South Sudan.
Dr. Reagan noted that the association plans to establish a national database on childhood diabetes, saying current estimates suggest that between 3,000 and 6,000 children in South Sudan may be living with the condition.
He urged parents, particularly mothers, to bring children living with diabetes to the clinic, ensure they receive insulin as prescribed, and attend regular follow-up appointments to improve their health outcomes.
The Diabetes and Insulin Clinic is expected to improve early diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care for children living with diabetes, while enhancing the country’s capacity to manage the disease.
