Sudanese businessman jailed for stabbing South Sudanese boy in Abyei
A Sudanese businessman has been jailed pending investigation after stabbing a boy in Amieet market in Abyei Special Administrative Area.
Abraham Ariath, the Chairperson of Aweil Union in Abyei Administrative Area told Juba Echo on Tuesday that the victim Aguer Garang Aguer from Aweil in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State of South Sudan was stabbed last week after a bitter disagreement with his attacker in the busy market.
He said that Aguer used to hawk goods in the busy market which is home to both Sudanese and South Sudanese nationals.
“The report that I got is that he (Aguer) had a quarrel with an Arab man and he got stabbed in the process,” Ariath said.
He said that Aguer who was stabbed in the chest is currently receiving treatment at a clinic operated by Medicines Sans Frontier (MSF).
Ariath said the suspect has been arrested as the peace committee based in Amieet prepares to investigate the incident.
He appealed to Aguer’s relatives to support him as doctors struggle to save his life.
This incident follows deadly communal clashes on Saturday, last week in Abyei Administrative Area which left 52 people killed and two United Nations peacekeepers.
