3 women detained in Aweil town over death of man in local bar
Police have arrested three women in Apada village in Nyalath payam of Northern Bahr El Ghazal following the death of a man due to alcohol overdose in their bar.
David Gop Aluk a resident of Apada village who witnessed the incident said that deceased Guot Mayen, 51, was drinking indoors during the festive season in the house of the three women.
Mayen died of alcohol overdose on December 31st as people ushered in the New Year.
Aluk said that the women on realizing the condition of Mayen attempted to help him but they failed to save his life.
“Since we arrived from Sudan in 2011, we started living in Apada as a camp but now it is a big village,” said Aluk.
“It is much better if the brewers could control the amount of alcohol to their customers than allowing them to drink overdose,” he added.
Another resident of Apada, Abuk Garang blamed some alcohol consumers for drinking irresponsibly.
He appealed to the state government to fix the time for bars in order to regulate alcohol consumption.
The state government last year banned consumption of local gins such as star gin and royal gin.
