NGO hands over newly built prison facilities to authorities in Koch County
The World Relief Organization on Tuesday handed over newly built prison facilities and a community
court to authorities in Koch town.
Gatwech Wal, the legal officer for the World Relief Organization which is the implementing partners of
the project supported under the Reconciliation, Stabilization and Resilience Trust Fund (RSRTF), told
Juba Echo that the facilities were handed over to the police commissioner in Koch County.
He said that the Reconciliation, Stabilization and Resilience Trust Fund (RSRTF) project which started
since 2019 is focused on reconciliation, stabilization and resilience.
“Before the construction of the prison facilities, prisoners were being kept in containers which were not
conducive for humans because they lacked ventilators, currently prisoners are in good condition after
we constructed the new prisons facilities,” said Wal.
In addition, the project has overseen the construction of women centers, youth centers in Koch town
and another women center in Mirmir Payam.
Wal said that the construction of the detention facilities and three offices started in 2022.
Koch county police commissioner, Tut Wal Dang thanked the World Relief Organization for supporting
prisoners, adding that they have started transferring prisoners to the newly constructed detention
