MTN restores network in Koch County after disruption since 2013

MTN South Sudan has restored mobile network services in Koch town and in Mirmir Payam of Koch County after it was disrupted in the aftermath of conflict in December 2013.

David Makuom Simon, the MTN customer service officer in Unity State said the restoration of the network will support local communities to communicate with people in the capital, Juba and other far flung places across the country.

“We have already reopened two MTN stations, one is in Koch town opposite Koch market and one in Mirmir Payam opposite to Mirmir swampy areas,” Makuom told Juba Echo on Friday.

Nyapuoch Puot Teny , a resident in Koch town said they have been relying on Zain mobile network to communicate prior to restoration of MTN network.

“I am very happy today because MTN has been restored, we have been relying only on Zain network in Koch County which has been not stable,” Teny said.

She added that resuming MTN communications services will help facilitate peace and unity among communities.

“We are now in position to communicate peace messages to the community through MTN mobile SMS services, misinformation and disinformation will now be detected because before the MTN network was restored there were a lot of rumors circulating among the community and it was difficult to correct,” Teny said.
