Authorities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state have secured batches of rabies vaccines following rise in dog bites.
Peter Dut Thiep, Acting Director General in the State Ministry of Health, said they are planning to distribute the vaccines in health centers across the state.
“We have received rabies vaccines from our partners such as World Health Organization,” Thiep told Juba Echo over the weekend in Aweil.
More than 70 people in the state are infected with rabies following dog bites since the start of this year.
“These vaccines will be delivered to health centers for free. Our people have been moving from rural areas to Aweil town in search for treatment for rabies. The drugs in the pharmacies are very expensive,” Thiep said.
The ministries of health and animal resources have been urging the public to vaccinate their dogs.
