Several patients with Tuberculosis in Aweil West County of Northern Bhar El Ghazal State have over the years, endured costly expenses in search of treatment due to lack of testing equipment at the main health facility in their area.
But last week lady luck visited them when the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) donated the first testing equipment for Tuberculosis to Nyamlel primary health care center.
“We have got the machine for the TB patients from the UNDP and we are grateful for that. It has been a challenging for us to diagnose patients, but with this machine our people in Aweil West County will not have to travel to Aweil town in search of treatment,” Lual Khamis, the Director of Nyamlel primary care center told Juba Echo on Tuesday.
“We have been sending the patients to Aweil town and they suffered a lot. At times they end up going to Gordhim in Aweil East County which is quite far,” he added.
Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection spread through inhaling tiny droplets from the coughs or sneezes of an infected person. It mainly affects the lungs, but it can affect any part of the body, including the tummy (abdomen), glands, bones and nervous system.
