The Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) Edmund Yakani has urged the parties to the 2018 revitalized peace deal to make peace and stability prevail as the extended road map begins.
“As the end of the 36 months for the transitional period is soon ending and the roll out of the extended 24 months is kicking-off, the political leadership of the country are highly required to demonstrate total change of political attitudes and demonstration of real political commitment for making peace and stability prevail,” Yakani said.
He said that within the past 36 months period the parties have not demonstrated political will and commitment to reconstitute the political transitional institutions, deliverance of reforms, redeployment of graduated forces and implementation of other tasks.
“The 24 months might the same with 36 months if the following consent are not met, consent number one is we wish the political parties should regain trust and confidence for delivering the revitalized agreement pending tasks that were not delivered because we are seeing mistrust between the parties especially the principals have genuinely held the agreement hostage,” Yakani said.
He urged the political parties to change their political attitude and focus on the implementation of the pending tasks of the agreement.
Yakani encouraged the parties to hold roundtable talks such that they implement some remaining tasks on time.
“CEPO with due respect and honor is urging the political leadership to urgently act on some of the pending tasks of the R-ARCSS before 22nd February, 2023,” he said.
In August last year, the parties extended the road map citing delay in implementing some of the pending critical tasks.
