Police in Aweil town of Northern Bahr El Gazal State are holding a Sudanese national suspected of molesting an 11- year-old girl.
Aweil police spokesperson Guot Guot Akol told Juba Echo on Saturday that the suspect Yasir Ismail Ababikir, 40 is a business man in Aweil town.
He said the suspect a neighbor to the girl in Maderia Residential area of Aweil lured his young victim with money before molesting her.
“The accused sexually molested a girl with money that he has and had spent about 4 days with her. The girl returned back home and didn’t report it to her parents but after some days she developed signs that were noticed by her mother. When asked by her mother she revealed the man and was taken to the hospital where tests were done and shown positive,” Akol explained.
Akol said the parents reported the case with police leading to the arrest of the suspect.
“We dispatched police officers to his residence, and unfortunately we found him with another young girl of 14 years and he was about to undress her. I am not in position to reveal her name here again,” he disclosed.
Guot said the 11 year-old girl is now getting treated in the hospital as the police interrogate the suspect.
The incident has triggered mixed reactions in the public with some blaming it on high levels of poverty in Aweil town.
Last year, a court in N.Bahr El Gazal State sentenced a Sudanese man to death accused of raping a four year old girl in Aweil who unfortunately passed on.
