Migration boss sets up team to beef up security ahead of Papal visit

The Department of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passport and Immigration has constituted a six- member sub-committee to take charge of the security in preparation for Pope Francis’s visit at Juba International Airport.

Lt.Gen Atem Marol Biar, the Director General for Civil Registry, Nationality, Passport and Immigration said on Thursday that the sub-committee is headed by Maj. Anei Mathiang Acir, Capt. Santino Nyuol Dut Atem as deputy head of mission, 1st Lt.Emmanuel Agany Akec for protocol, 1st Lt.Suzan Angeth Isaac as Secretary, 1st Lt.Gum Paul Makoi and 1st Lt. Joseph Undo Elisa in charge of IT division.

 “Pope is coming and we have to provide protection, for those in need of visa on arrival they are our customers, make process for them, verify their documents, and if they are not qualified sent them back, I want you to be very polite, police must be polite ,” said Biar while briefing the team in Juba.

“The coming situation needs commitment, you are going to implement the real work of the police, you have to take full responsibility of security and you need to be very careful for the country to remain good, we need to do good work,” he said.

The ecumenical journey of the Holy Father, Pope Francis will begin in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on February 1st and then proceed to Juba for a three days visit beginning on February 3rd, 2023.
