Officials give conflicting statement over alleged shooting of cattle in Kajo-Keji

The office of the Commissioner of Kajo Keji has said a video clip circulating on social media is not from his area, saying that the video being circulated is intended to dis-inform the public about Kajo- keji and its people.
“The leadership of the county under Commissioner would like to clarify to the people of South Sudan and the general public that the said video is false, unfounded and maliciously released to tarnish the image of Kajo keji and its people,” the letter read.
The video that was released on the 23rd of January 2023 showed that the suspected armed youth shooting cattle in a background saying they wanted the cattle to the leave the community.
Moses Taban Khamis the Director for Liwolo Payam of Kajo Keji county said the government is looking for culprits of cattle killing citing that the incident has spark fear.
“We as the government are still following and looking for the perpetrators of the incident. They are not known, they entered the place where the cattle were, raided it and gunned down 25 cattle,” he said.
He however said there is calm in the area as the herders have heard their advice to remain calm as they the government take the lead to search for the culprits.
“There is no any security threat currently in Kajo keji. Civilians area moving freely” he said “We need the cattle herders to move very far from the residential areas as we look for the culprits,”
Taban called on the cattle herders to move far away from the residential areas.
