SSPDF court arraigns soldier suspected of killing 4 workers in Warrap State
The General Court Martial of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) on Monday arraigned Private Yak Garang Yak from the elite Tiger Division to answer charges for killing four construction workers on January 7th in Gogrial West of Warrap State.
Garang is suspected of opening fire on a South Sudanese and three Syrian nationals working for a Lebanese Construction Company which was contracted to build a house of a senior government official in Akon village of Gogrial West.
Speaking to journalists after the general c ourt martial sitting, SSPDF spokesperson Maj. Gen Lul Ruai Koang, said the presiding judge Maj. Gen Majok Michael Chan adjourned the sitting to give room for further consultations.
“The defense team made an objection on formation of General Court Martial on a number of grounds, they are saying that the General Court Martial should not do work which is meant for the committee,” Gen. Lul in Giada military barracks in Juba.
The five-member General Court Martial is chaired by Maj. Gen. Majok Michael Chan and deputized by Brig. Gen. Alex Makelele Nyijok.
Gen. Lul said the general court martial will resume sitting on Tuesday.
“The session was adjourned for further consultations, and I am glad to inform you that we are adjourning for further legal consultations,” said Lul.
Tiger Division is the elite force that guards the President and other V.I.P personnel in the country.
