SPLM members in Lobonok endorse Kiir as flag bearer for 2024 elections
Members of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in Lobonok Payam led by Vice President for Economic Cluster James Wani Igga on Monday endorsed President Salva Kiir Mayardit as Presidential flag bearer for 2024 elections.
The announcement came at the end of two-day SPLM orientation training held in Lobonok Payam.
Wani also SPLM First Deputy Chairman hailed Lobonok Payam Liberation Council for endorsing President Kiir.
“You cadres of the Liberation Council, you should work hard in order to mobilize and recruit masses to the ranks and files of SPLM to prepare the ground in order for us to capture power, and that is the prime objective of any political party,” he said in a statement issued on the Facebook page of the office of Vice President for Economic Custer.
Rita Stephen Ezadin, Assistant Secretary for Gender and Social Welfare in Central Equatoria State urged party loyalists to unite and dedicate themselves to their roles in the party.
“For the SPLM party to flourish it needs collective effort,” said Ezadin.
She called on party cadres to move to all payams of Juba County and to all Counties of Central Equatoria to reflect oneness and spirit of comradeship.
In August, President Kiir announced the extension of his transitional government’s time in office for another two years, meaning elections would be held in December 2024.
On December, 7 2022, SPLM Political Bureau nominated Kiir as flag bearer after it revoked membership of the First Vice President Riek Machar and former Secretary General Pagan Amum who is leading the opposition Real SPLM.
