Peace Partners Celebrate World Peace Day In Bentiu IDPs Camp With Festival

Action for conflict resolution (ACR) has staged a huge cultural festival in Bentiu IDPs camp in Unity State to commemorate the international peace day on Wednesday.

Patricia Kayode, the monitoring and evaluation officer of the organization said they joined the world in celebrating International Peace Day through cultural festival performed by Bentiu youth Union- a traditional dance group who sent gestures of peace, healing and reconciliation to their audiences .

Patricia added that, through the cultural performances the youth and community at large became equipped and empowered with positive thinking to tackle various challenges affecting their daily lives.

The peace making project is supported by Norwegian People Aid (NPA) and implemented by ACR, she said.

“Our aim is to empower the youths and the community to tackle various challenges affecting their daily lives and to remind the community of the importance of peace at the community level,” said the M&E lady.

The event was graced by Community leaders, Church representatives, UNPOL, Joint Police Forces, UNMISS, UN agencies, Danish Refugee Council DRC, UNHCR, UNDP among other distinguished guests.

Bentiu Youths Union on their part esteemed Action for Conflict Resolution for having considered them as part of the World peace Day celebration which they say is the first ever peace celebration in Unity state.

During the celebration, the United Nations Development Programme representative Thor Chot spoke to the community about embracing peace, love and unity.

“We expect unity state citizens to move freely without fear or harassment in the public roads, my appeal to you is to respect humanity, there is no strong man without peace in this World and you cannot be a good leader by killing people, if you need peace we will support,” the UNDP representative said.

He pledged support to humanitarian peace partners and community peace initiatives in their quest to bring back peace to South Sudan.
