The Executive Director for Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmund Yakani has urged the parties to the Nairobi peace talks dubbed “Tumaini” to expedite the peace process.
“Some people feel so disturbed and provide wrong interpretation of the Tumaini talks for their gains, we appeal for the resumption of Tumaini peace talks to help create an implementable political framework for delivering the country from violence to peace,” said Yakani on Monday in an interview.
Yakani said 8 protocols have successfully been agreed upon by both the transitional government and the opposition parties who refused to sign the 2018 revitalized peace agreement.
He said that the Tumaini peace initiative is a political transitional process, adding that its successful conclusion will lead to a shake-up in both the parliament and cabinet.
“The Tumaini started very well and 8 protocols were initialed, a concern raised by parties was sufficiently responded to but we still realize that some people are fighting the peace process by delaying it and undergoing a review process,” Yakani said.
The Tumaini peace talks being mediated by the Kenyan government commenced on May 3rd, 2024, in Nairobi.
