Two South Sudanese athletes have been picked to participate in the middle and long distance running race scheduled for January 13, 2024 in neighboring Ethiopia.
This was revealed by Marko Akol, the Secretary General for the South Sudan Athletics Federation in a statement issued on Thursday in Juba.
Akol said the two athletes are well-prepared and ready to participate in the cross country athletics championship.
“The second national athletics championship held in November 2023 has brought athletes that can participate in the region and beyond, we have selected two and our athletes are ready to participate in cross country athletics championship,” said Akol.
The two athletes that will represent South Sudan include Ajith Thlang, a long distance runner of 1500 meter race and Chol Ajang a middle distance runner who will run in the 800 meter race.
Ajith Thlang, a long distance runner is also expected to participate in the West Asia Athletics championship competition to be held in Iraq on January 30th.
Joseph Ramadan, the head coach for the South Sudan Athletics Federation said that they are adequately prepared to take part in both regional and global athletics championships.
“We are technically ready to participate in the cross country athletics championship in Ethiopia, our team is well-prepared and ready to raise the flag of South Sudan in global athletics championship,” said Ramadan.
