The transitional justice working group has urged the transitional government to swiftly implement chapter five of the 2018 revitalized peace agreement to bring about justice and reconciliation in the country.
Lony Ruot, a member of transitional justice working group said on Thursday that the establishment of hybrid court under the 2018 revitalized peace agreement is also urgent if the country is to realize peace, unity and reconciliation.
He was speaking during a two-day symposium on transitional justice held in Pyramid Hotel in Juba.
Opio Moses, the deputy chairperson for the transitional justice working group commended the parties to the agreement for the recent deployment of the 750 unified forces to Upper Nile state.
“We are happy that the graduation of the unified forces has taken place, so that they can be able to provide security and territorial integrity, our people will be able to return back from refugee camps,”Moses said
Zahra Said, the head of the South Sudan Network for Democracy and Elections, said survivors of the war need to be compensated.
“Before elections, we want to see that the laws for the Commission for Truth and Healing and the Compensation and Reparation Authority are passed so that victims and survivors get compensated,” she said.
South Sudan descended into conflict in December 2013, following political dispute between President Salva Kiir and his then deputy Riek Machar.
The war caused deaths of thousands and displaced millions both internally and externally.
The revitalized peace agreement is the only option to realizing permanent peace and stability in South Sudan.
