At least 60 South Sudan police officers on Wednesday started attending training on investigation of criminal offences in Rubkona County of Unity State.
The head of the police criminal investigation department of Rubkona County, Col. Peter Ruaichar Thuok told Juba Echo that 20 female and 40 male officers are being trained by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan’s police.
“This is the first training we have ever received as Unity State police because it will enable our officers to identify the difference between civil and criminal offences,” Thuok said.
He added that the two-day training will equip the trainees with skills to comb crime scenes, crime management and protection of civilians and the rule of law.
In addition, Thuok said the training also includes components on human rights, prohibition of torture and use of force.
UNMISS Police department liaison assistant officer, Simon Lam Chuoth said they will continue to train South Sudan police to manage and handle criminal cases.
