Police in Aweil town has detained a trader for breaching the order banning
sale of sachet waragi and local gin.
Earlier this year, authorities banned the sale of sachet waragi and gins
such as star gin and rayal gin
Police Commissioner for Northern Bahr El Ghazal State Philip Madut Tong
said that the banned goods were impounded in a truck that arrived in Aweil
town from the capital Juba.
“We have been working hard to tell traders that star gin and hookah
(shisha) are prohibited because they are contributing to criminal activities in
the state,” Tong told journalists in Awqeil town on Monday.
Tong said the trader whose identity he did not disclose will soon be
arraigned in the court of law to answer for his crime.
He said that the police are ready to implement the order that was
announced by the council of ministers in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.
