Parents urged to complete immunization of children in Aweil

Officials in the ministry of health in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State have called on especially lactating mothers to complete immunization process for their children.

This was revealed by the Director for Immunization in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state Santino Ngong Chan on Monday while appearing on local radio Akol Yam FM in Aweil town.

He said they are receiving reports that many lactating mothers in remote villages are failing to turn up with their children for immunization.

“At times women come once and take time to return as some of them are unaware of the date when they are expected to return for immunization,” Ngong said.

He said they have health workers health at Boma levels that should assist these women in far flung villages.

“The Boma health workers are helpful staff as they are volunteering to move from door to door. These vaccines are being put in cold-chain where they cannot expire and if you go back with your child h/she still will be vaccinated if you had bypassed two days without vaccination,” Ngong said.

Doctor Wol Aken, a health officer in the state warned that cases of children contracting paralysis and other diseases could easily increase if they are not taken for vaccination.

Unity state has battling to contain measles outbreak since August that killed more than 60 children under five years.
