Members of the Jikany community association in Bentiu internally displaced camp conducted fundraising over the weekend aimed at supporting the returnees who fled conflict in neighboring Sudan.
Samuel Reath Koy, the chairperson of Jikany community association in Bentiu IDP camp, said they are fundraising money to support returnees who arrived in the IDP camp and those still caught up due to ongoing fighting in Sudan.
“We remain committed to support returnees through fundraising, we the Jikany community association in Bentiu IDP camp we support our fellow citizens who returned back from Sudan and those still struggling to escape the conflict in Sudan,” Reath told Juba Echo on Monday in Bentiu IDP camp.
John Kuol Kiir, the chief guest during the fundraising campaign urged citizens to join hands with the state government to support returnees who arrived with nothing on them.
“We need to have unity to support our fellow citizens from Khartoum, let us remain united for peace and unity. Today’s fundraising will enable us to support the returnees and those still held up amid fighting in Sudan,” Kuol said.
The Koch County community association in Bentiu IDP camp will also conduct similar fundraising in July to support returnees.
