The Unity State Ministry of Health on Thursday reported increase in the number of Trachoma cases in seven counties and Ruweng Administrative area.
Duol Biem Kueiguong , the director general of the state ministry of health blamed poor hygienic conditions and devastating floods for the spike in Trachoma cases.
“The state ministry of health has carried out Trachoma survey in all seven counties of Unity State. During our Trachoma survey, we found many trachoma patients and we have called our health partners to carry out Trachoma awareness and eye operations among the affected people,” Biem told Juba Echo in Bentiu town.
He disclosed that some 41 Trachoma patients are admitted in Bentiu state hospital
Biem said Christiam Blind Mission (CBM) a non-governmental organization based in Bentiu state Hospital is already conducting eye operations to patients of Trachoma.
“We have carried out massive distribution of antibiotics for those with Trachoma disease in Mayom , Panyijiar, Koch, Leer, Mayendit, Guit, and Rubkona Counties,” he said.

Gatnyang Mayian Monytuil,84, who recovered from Tachoma thanked the state ministry of health and partners for conducting eye surgery on him.
“I am now free from Trachoma; I was suffering from this Trachoma for 15 years. I almost become blind but thanks to God and the ministry of health for treating my eyes,” Monytuil said.
In June, the ministry of health and partners supported eye operation for over 41 Trachoma patients.
Trachoma is a disease of the eye caused by infection with the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis.
