Local court to be set up in Wadwill refugee camp

By Hou Akot Hou

Local chiefs at Wadwil refugee camp in Aweil West County, said Wednesday that they are planning to establish a court to settle disputes between refugees and the host community.

Chief Deng Baai Tol, said that they are conscious about problems that may arise between the host community and the refugees stationed in their area.

“These are our brothers and sisters. So we are wary about any court cases that may occur. Therefore, we want to set up local court to settle their problems amicably,” Baai told Juba Echo.

He said that they have consulted the refugees’ leaders about the decision of setting up the unit and they have commended it.

“The refugees’ representatives have welcomed the decision. It could include the women leaders who are outspoken so that their rights and other entitlements such as the humanitarian assistance is utilized properly,” Baai said.

He urged the Northern Bahr El Ghazal State government and the humanitarian organizations to give support to the refugees, including the returnees who fled the conflict in neighboring Sudan.

More than 70,000 people who fled conflict in Sudan since April 15, have arrived in Northern Bahr El Ghazal, Renk in Upper Nile State and Unity State.

The Sudanese warring parties have agreed to a ceasefire truce to allow the humanitarian assistance reach those in need.
