The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has started a new three-year governance project targeting three states of Central Equatoria, Upper Nile and Western Bahr El Ghazel.
Tanaka Hiroyuki, the chief representative of JICA in South Sudan, said on Tuesday that they have started a new project for capacity development of states and county governments.
He added the program also includes community rebuilding and local development.
JICA has worked in partnership with the national government on peace and development projects.
It also supports programs aimed at improving the economy, social infrastructure, security and livelihoods and strengthening governance.
Wayi Goodwill, the Central Equatoria State Minister of Cabinet Affairs, said the new project on local governance will benefit the people in many areas including agriculture, infrastructure and clean drinking water.
“The new project which is basically to build capacity of local governance will benefit, JICA is implementing many project that are benefiting our people in the area of agriculture, area of infrastructure and area of drinking water,” Goodwill said.
Goodwill said that the Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony has pledged to always cooperate with JICA to ensure that they work in mutual understanding to benefit the population.
The technical cooperation also includes projects implemented by relevant ministries and local government, in addition to those administered directly by JICA.
