President Kiir calls for ceasefire in Sudan

South Sudan’s president Salva Kiir Mayardit has called for ceasefire in Sudan.

President Kiir made the call through two of his ministries. The ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and that of Presidential Affairs issued two separate press statements on Saturday calling for ceasefire in Sudan.

Fighting broke out in Sudan’s capital on Sunday morning with many residents stuck at home, some with no food.

The clashes are between forces loyal to Sudan’s Head of the Supreme Council Abdel Fatah Al Burhan (Sudan’s Armed Forces) and forces of his Deputy Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo who heads the Rapid Support Forces

BBC is reporting that three civilians have been confirmed dead as a result of the fighting.

The disagreement between the two generals is over the duration of integration of the Rapid Support Forces into Sudan’s Armed Forces, whereas General Al Burhan propose two to three years, General Hamdan wants the process to last ten years.

The Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces are paramilitary that has fought alongside Sudan’s Armed Forces for decades but it’s also semi autonomous.
