Police have arrested a 30- year- old man accused of having stabbed his wife to death on Tuesday in Aweil East County of Northern Bhar El Ghazal State.
Guot Guot Akol, the Spokesperson for police in Northern Bhar El Ghazal State said the suspect stabbed the deceased 18 times while she was resting in their home in Mangok payam.
“The man came and found his wife and stabbed her 18 times and she died immediately,” Guot told journalists on Thursday.
Guot said the deceased is survived by a one –year- old baby.
In a similar incident, a 50- year -old man in Aweil South County recently stabbed his brother to death.
Guot blamed the two incidents on drunkenness and high cost of living.
“Some people drink local gin and when they get into discussion they simply go wild. Hunger is also causing violence in the homes,” he said.
Guot cautioned traders against selling local gin which he blamed for spiking cases of domestic violence.
