The National Alliance of Political Parties (NAPP) a coalition of opposition parties which signed the 2018 revitalized peace deal have called for unity among other signatories in order to complete outstanding issues.
NAPP said in a statement on Tuesday that many of the activities which were supposed to take place during the pre-transitional period like the unification of the army, police and national security are still pending.
In addition, NAPP also called on signatories to look forward to speed up the permanent constitution making process, reconstitution of the Political Parties Council (PCC), National Election Commission (NEC) and establish transitional Justice and accountability mechanisms.
“We would like to say in uncertain terms that, should the present extension of two years elapse without the full implementation of Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan, we won’t accept any extension again,” it said.
“The National Alliance of Political Parties in the spirit of unity and working together accepted the extension which extended the transitional period by 24 months, which commenced from the end of the transitional period on 22 February 2023 to pave the way for free, fair and credible election at the end of the transitional period. Let us salvage South Sudanese from their multiple suffering by implementing the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan in letter and spirit,” it disclosed.
NAPP urged the R-TGoNU to conduct population census countrywide to determine the constituencies.
They also urged the R-TGoNU to avail the conducive environment and political space to allow political parties to move without hindrances across the country.
“The National Alliance urges the international community, IGAD and the guarantors to the R-ARCSS to support the extended period for 2 years, morally and financially,” it said.
It called on the government to support the National Constitution Amendment Committee (NCAC) to draft bills, adding that the National Legislature should ratify them by consensus.
The NAPP is a coalition of political parties that include National United Democratic Front, Communist Party of South Sudan, Democratic Unionist Party, United South Sudan Party, Popular Congress Party, United Democratic Party, National Democratic Alliance, Peace Unity Reconciliation and Equality, South Sudan National Party, United Democratic Salvation Front-Mainstream, and South Sudan Democratic Front.
