UN Women Deputy Executive Director Asa Regner addressing press conference in Juba.

The visiting UN Women Deputy Executive Director on Wednesday called on the transitional unity government to provide tangible actions on women’s empowerment, meaningful participation and leadership in the implementation of the peace agreement.

Asa Regner told journalists on Tuesday at UN Women headquarters in Juba that participation of women in leadership and in the ongoing peace process is critical for achieving peace and development in the country.

Regner said focus should be set on concrete results in the implementation of gender equality policies.

She also emphasized the involvement of men and boys in gender equality.

Regner met with women and gender rights activists.

“UN women supports the efforts of the government of South Sudan and civil society to strengthen women’s leadership and participation in politics, peace and security, eliminate gender-based violence and promote women’s economic empowerment,” she said.
