The public Information department of UNMISS South Sudan chapter celebrated the United Nations World Day by engaging the New Moon Fc and Women Vision FC in football activity.
Roseline Nkwelle, the agency’s Information Officer said that they chose the football match between woman teams purposely to promote gender equality and empowerment of women in South Sudan.
“We actually organized this football competition between the two female teams to promote gender equality and women empowerments” UNMISS Public Information officer Mrs. Roseline Nkwelle told Juba Echo in an interview in Bentiu IDPs camp football ground on Monday.
This year’s theme for the celebration has been; “The hope and determination to move beyond global conflict to global cooperation after the Second World War.”
In the UN football competition, New Moon FC was awarded a trophy having triumphed over Women Vision FC with a 2-0 victory.
Mrs. Nkwelle added that, they attached a lot of consideration to the teenage girls living in the protection of civilian sites with talent in football by giving them a chance to showcase those talents.
“The one-day event positively impacted peace and unity among the IDPs camp residents as huge crowd of people converged to spectate the female football competition,” she added.
Lady Nkwelle pledged that, UNMISS will continue to support the female football teams in Bentiu IDPs camp with the principle aim of promoting peace and empowering women and girls.
Bichar Maluit,the Bentiu IDPs camp football club manager exulted UNMISS for choosing and celebrating UN Day with females’ football competition in Bentiu IDPs camp.
“It was a wonderful UN Day celebration because UNMISS organized the first ever female football teams competition in Bentiu IDPs camp which I believe every one enjoyed to watch the ladies play on the pitch,” the camp football manager remarked.
