South Sudan’s immigration department has warned against a trending habit of officials taking exorbitant fees in passport fees from citizens.
Nationality IDs cost between 2050 SSP and 4000 SSP while regular passports cost 4500 SSP and business passports 30,000 SSP, Lt. Gen. Atem Marol Biar, the Director General for Civil Registry, Nationality, Passport and Immigration, said in a statement issued yesterday.
“No one should pay extra fees to acquire passport, nationality or national ID,” Biar said.
“No official should accept any extra payment from any person in order to facilitate issuance of passports nationality and national ID,” he said.
“Any person who pays or accept any fees that exceed the above mentioned official fees will be taken to court and face the full powers of the law.”
