Greater Pioneer Operating Company (GPOC) has donated medical kits including hospital beds, medicines and laboratory reagents to Mayom County Hospital located in the oil-producing state of Unity State.
This was revealed Wednesday to journalists by Anyak Mangar Akok, the Manager for Community Development at the Unity State coordination office in Juba.
“We are here to hand over a number of hospital beds, consignment of medicine to unity state, the samples which are here are going direct to Mayom county hospital because it is far from Bentiu,” Akok said.
He disclosed that the latest consignment was also distributed to Ruweng and Bentiu hospital.
Joseph Nguen Monytuil, the Governor for Unity State, said that relative peace and stability in unity state has led to increase in the number of internally displaced people returning, thus putting pressure on health facilities in the state.
“The population is increasing in unity state, people are returning to their original settlement, and so we are being overwhelmed, the burden on hospitals is increasing. We appreciate GPOC for providing services to the people,” Monytuil said.
The GPOC consortium consists of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) (40%), Malaysia’s Petronas (30%), India’s ONGC Videsh (25%) and South Sudan’s state-owned NILEPET (5%).
