The coalition committee of 15 members pinched from various institutions to spread
messages on Menstrual Health was launched yesterday at the side line of
International Menstrual Health Day.
The committee members were drawn from dissimilar Ministries, schools,
community-based Organisations, churches and National organizations and offered
window of opportunity to raise awareness on Menstrual Hygiene across the
Country.
The President of Africa Youth and Adolescent Network on Population and
Development (AfriYAN) South Sudan Mrs. Emanuela Dwantka says the Coalition
committee will effectively and efficiently spread specific messages on Menstrual
Health throughout S.Sudan.
She revealed that, the Coalition Committee is organized by AfriYAN and with
support from UNFPA South Sudan.
“We have taken this iniative as AfriYAN to organize and form this Coalition
Committee with support from UNFPA and enhance their capacity to deliver
intended programs on menstrual hygiene”. She adds.
On his part, Dr. Kidane G. Abraha the Head of Integrated Sexual Reproductive
Health Program UNFPA South Sudan says they are supporting the committee
through Ministry of General Education and instruction.
“We are supporting this committee through Ministry in order to draft guidelines on
Menstrual Health Management yet planning to provide a framework for menstrual
health programing and establish Coalition on Menstrual Health Management.
Dr.Kidane added that they are working with many partners including youth- led
groups in South Sudan to raise awareness and eliminate stigma on Menstruation
and training of Women to make their own sanitary pads.
The government of South Sudan is yet to adopt Comprehensive framework on
Sexuality Education into the Curriculums.
