President Salva Kiir Mayardit is set to form a fact-finding committee to investigate the ongoing cattle rustling in Mugali Payam of Magwi County of Eastern Equatoria State.
“His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit gave us an overview of two situations that have occurred, the first was on Mugali which was 11 May 2022 and in that attacked 23 people were killed including women and children and 3,450 herds of cattle were taken and 52 herds of cattle were killed, the cattle herders wounded were not known” the Minister of Information and Communication, Michael Makuei Lueth said.
“The situation was explained by the president that this is a situation that needs government intervention. It’s not acceptable for us to continue or allow our citizens to continue killing themselves for no reason and start looting cattle and so forth,” he said.
“As such, after deliberation, His Excellency the president directed the Governor of Eastern Equatoria State and Commissioner of Magwi will be called by him to give explanations on what is happening on the ground, and he will set up a fact-finding committee that will go to the side and find out exactly what happened in that place,” Makuei added.
He said that the cabinet appreciated the briefing from the President and condemned all forms of hostility in the strongest terms possible.
Makuei said Kiir also briefed the cabinet on the issue of the Abyei and Twic communities that they resume fighting among themselves and the government is preparing to send forces on the ground to maintain law and order.
