The cabinet has on Friday approved 2.7 billion South Sudanese Pounds for the dissemination of the 2018 peace deal to the citizens across the country and beyond.

President Salva Kiir and his deputy, Dr Riek Machar signed a peace agreement in 2018 that ended five years of civil war.

But challenges remain, including the government’s failure to implement promised reforms including completing the graduation of unified forces.

Speaking after the cabinet meeting in Juba on Friday, Information Minister Michael Makuei Lueth said the cabinet has approved a work plan designed by the Minister of Peace Building, Stephen Par to reach and disseminate peace agreement to citizens at home and abroad.

“The Minister of Peace Building, Stephen Par presented a program and a work plan which was appreciated and the work plan included visiting all the states and administrative areas,” Makuei told reporters after a cabinet meeting on Friday.

“And going to the displaced and refugee camps and even visiting other countries in the Diaspora where there is a sizable number of South Sudanese so that they can understand the progress being made in the agreement and the way forward and this plan for the dissemination is approximated to be costing 2. 7 billion South Sudanese Pounds.”

Makuei said the money for peace dissemination will be released from the budget of the Ministry of Peace Building.

“The Minister asked that the money should be released from that budget and used for dissemination of peace. This report was highly appreciated and it was approved and passed by the cabinet.”
