South Sudanese journalists acquire knowledge on integrated risk mitigation

Journalists in South Sudan have been trained on identification of threats and risks on communities and how information can be used to mitigate them.

About 15 of them, selected from different media houses in the capital Juba acquired the one-day training organised by CORDAID on Thursday with support from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.

The training was undertaken because the media plays a vital role in telling people to prevent disaster by relaying accurate and timely message for better understanding, Isaac Bwire, Resilience Livelihood Manager at the NGO said.

Journalists were trained on hazard identification technics, assessing the level of vulnerability and the media capacity to address the forecasted risk.

Bwire said its a pilot program which targets the government, civil society organisations and the media to work together towards mitigating disaster.
