Raiders suspected to be from the Misseriya nomads in Sudan have stolen about 1000 heads of cattle from Panyigai Payam of Rubkhona County in Unity State, the Director General at the State Ministry of Information, Deng Muon Liah, said.
The raid occurred on Tuesday afternoon, just a week after the Misseriya herders committed not to steal cattle from the area.
According to Liah, two people from the area were injured when fighting ensure with the raiders.
Just a week Misseriya herders agreed that they will not raid cattle around Panyigai Payam of Rubkona County, after we discussed several issues including cattle raiding with Misseriya authority and the agreement went well but looks like they did not understand what we discussed with them,” he told Juba Echo in an interview.
“Our state government have confirmed 1000 raided cattle and we are in communication with Misseriya authority as well as Sudan government to return back the raided cattle.”
According to Liah, the raid will impact grossly on the livelihood of the local people.
